TATA IPL 2024: Delhi Capitals' Rasikh Salam Faces Reprimand for IPL Conduct Breach
Delhi Capitals' pace bowler Rasikh Salam Dar has received a reprimand for his exuberant celebration following his team's nail-biting victory over the Gujarat Titans in an IPL 2024 fixture at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Rasikh played a pivotal role for DC, claiming three wickets for 44 runs in his four overs, which included dismissing B Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan, and R Sai Kishore.
“Dar committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding”, read a statement from IPL. Article 2.5 deals with “language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from another player”.
According to Article 2.5 of the IPL code of conduct, any language, action, or gesture displayed by a player towards a batsman upon their dismissal that might incite an aggressive response from the dismissed batsman, regardless of whether such a reaction occurs, or that could be interpreted as belittling or disrespectful to the dismissed batsman, irrespective of whether the batsman themselves perceive it as such, is considered a violation.
DC clinched victory by a margin of four runs, marking their fourth win of the season and propelling them to the sixth position on the IPL points table. This win was their fourth of the season. Meanwhile, GT suffered their fifth defeat of IPL 2024, causing them to drop to the seventh position in the standings. In the crucial 19th over of the GT innings, with the visitors requiring 37 runs to win, Pant entrusted the ball to Rasikh. Although the right-arm pacer conceded 18 runs, he managed to secure the vital wicket of Sai Kishore on the last delivery of the over.
“Anrich Nortje was having a tough time. T20 is a funny game, after 14-15 overs the ball was coming on nicely. So we wanted to trust Rasikh, always trust someone who is bowling well in a game. I think it is about instincts as a captain; it will come off sometimes. Happy it worked today”, Pant explained his decision.
